The Chief Judge of the South Jakarta District Court Wahyu Iman Santoso sentenced Ferdy Sambo to the death penalty in the premeditated murder case of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat alias Brigadier J.

Commissioner of the National Police Commission, Poengky Indarti, wants the case that ensnared Sambo to become a lesson and no more members of the Police will do the same thing.

"We hope that the strict punishment handed down to brother Ferdy Sambo will have a deterrent effect, so that no more members, especially those who are high-ranking officers with strategic positions, take similar actions, which result in loss of life and tarnish the reputation of the institution,"|Poengky, Monday, (13/02/23)

Apart from that, this case also gave the Bhayangkara Corps momentum to clean up members who committed violations or were considered naughty.

"We hope that the Sambo case will become a momentum for the National Police to clean up rogue members and resume the National Police's Cultural Reform,"

"So that people's trust in the National Police, which had fallen due to the Sambo case, will recover,"

Poengky also said Kompolnas highly respected the judge's decision.

If the verdict is considered severe, the former Head of the Propam Polri Division can appeal.

"We respect the Court's decision against Brother Ferdy Sambo,"

The Panel of Judges in making a decision must be based on the facts and evidence available at the trial,"

Amnesty International Indonesia Executive Director Usman Hamid Responding to the death sentence by the Panel of Judges at the South Jakarta District Court against the former Head of the Propam Division of the National Police Ferdy Sambo for the premeditated murder case of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J.

According to Usman, Sambo's actions were classified as serious crimes and difficult to tolerate.

Especially considering his capacity as head of the police force.

However, Usman believes that even though Ferdy Sambo needs to be severely punished, he still has the right to live.

"Amnesty is not against punishment, we agree that all forms of crimes under international law committed by state officials must be subject to severe law, but must still be fair, without having to impose the death penalty,"

This is an outdated punishment,"|Usman said in his statement, Tuesday (14/2/2023).

However, basically, his party respects every decision the judge has issued.

According to him, the decision would be considered fairer if the judge did not issue a death sentence.

"We respect the decision of the judge who has tried to satisfy the victim's sense of justice and also the general public. However, the judge can be fairer without having to sentence Sambo to death,"|Usman

Usman stated that the death penalty was not a solution to improve the image of state institutions, especially the police.

This case should be a reminder for the police to immediately make serious improvements internally

"The death penalty is not a shortcut to improve police accountability as law enforcers.

This case is not the first extrajudicial killing case involving police."
